Every person who has loved an animal understands time differently. You count it in seasons, in gray hairs appearing slowly around a muzzle, in the way a dog who once ran now walks close beside you.
We don't photograph pets. We photograph the love that passes between you — the weight of a head in a lap, the way they wait at the door, the particular quality of their attention when it lands on you.
These are not images to share. They are images to return to.
Afterlight is built on the belief that some moments deserve more than a screen. Shot on medium format film and crafted with intention, each portrait becomes something lasting—not just seen, but felt.
The Process
Most photographs of animals are taken. Ours are waited for.
We arrive before the light is ready. We sit in the grass. We let the dog wander. We watch for the moment the world goes golden and your animal becomes, briefly, luminous — and we're already looking when it happens.
This is not pet photography in the way you've seen pet photography. There is no studio. No posing. No treats held above a lens. There is only you, your animal, and the last hour of the day into blue hour.
We meet at a place that matters to you & your family — a familiar field, a favorite shore, the yard where they've spent a thousand afternoons, the doorway to the porch they napped throughout life. We spend an hour, sometimes two. We don't direct. We wait, we watch, we interact. I capture the moment.
You'll receive a small collection of images. Not a hundred. Not fifty. The ones that are actually true.
The light comes once.
So does this time with them.
